2- How does the overall process work?
Patient's Arrival in Izmir: The patient arrives in Izmir, Turkey, one day before the scheduled surgery. They check into their hotel and prepare for the upcoming procedure. In this period you will get instructions from the medical team regarding pre-surgery care, restrictions, fasting time and timeline of next day transfer to the Hospital.
Surgery Day: On the day of the surgery, the medical team arranges transportation for the patient from the hotel to the hospital.
Consultation with Dr. Emin Toprak: Before the surgery, the patient meets with Dr. Emin Toprak for a consultation. During this consultation, the patient discusses their desires and concerns related to the nose surgery. This conversation helps the doctor understand the patient's expectations and preferences for the outcome.
Physical Examination and Discussion: During the consultation, Dr. Emin Toprak examines the patient's nose physically to assess its current state and discuss the changes the patient wants to achieve. This part of the process is crucial for setting realistic expectations and ensuring that the patient and the doctor are on the same page.
Photographs and Simulation: The doctor takes photographs of the patient's nose from different angles. These photographs serve as a reference for the surgical procedure and for tracking changes during the recovery period. Additionally, if the patient is interested, a simulation might be performed. This could involve digitally altering the photographs to show the patient a probable post-surgery nose shape. This step helps the patient visualize the potential outcome and allows the doctor to confirm their understanding of the patient's desires.
Surgery: After the consultation, examination, and simulation (if applicable), the actual surgical procedure takes place. The patient is taken to the operating room, and the surgery is performed according to the plan discussed during the consultation.
Recovery: Following the surgery, the patient undergoes a recovery period. After about 3 hours patients can be discharged from hospital if they feel good and medical parameters are good. However, patient can stay overnight in the hospital if patient desire to do so or feels not good. Generally 4 days after surgery casts and soft silicon splints in nose are removed by the doctor. Then patients can fly back to their countries.
3- Will be any bruising, swelling and nose pain after surgery?
Due to Dr Toprak’ meticulous surgery technique, most of our patients don't get any bruising and pain. Only small percentage of patients experience light pain that easily managed by painkillers and little bruising that disappears in a few days itself. Thus, you don’t need to bring pills for pain or bruising
There can be small swelling in your face and nose. The majority of swelling start to subside within 3-days. Depending on your skin minimal swelling can persist for a few months.
4- When can you breathe from your nose after rhinoplasty
Because we use soft silicone splint patients can breathe more or less through their nose immediately after rhinoplasty. Nevertheless, you may need mouth breathing at some point during early days. Nasal breathing will improve over the following weeks and will generally feel back to normal by one to two months after surgery
5- How to clean your nose?
Your nose will be covered by tapes and plastic cast during surgery, only nose tip and nostrils will stay uncovered. Generally, you will have light nose bleeding for 3 days after surgery, you can gently swipe fresh blood coming out of your nostrils with a tissue.
Please don’t try to clean inside of the nose. It is important that you shouldn’t blow your nose for 3 weeks after surgery.
After removal of all tapes on your nose you can use cleansing gels or soap for cleaning your nose skin, and can use non irritating skin products except exfoliating one for 3 months.
6- When can I travel by car and flying
You can travel by car 2-3 hours after surgery as long as you feel good. Flying is safe 3 days after surgery.
7- When can I go back to my normal life after rhinoplasty?
Recovery from any surgery is dependent on your body’s natural healing process and the skill of your surgeon
A Thoughtful Progression: Activities and Their Timelines
Walking and travel by Car (First Hours):
In the initial hours after your rhinoplasty, gentle walking and car travel are both suitable activities. These contribute to circulation and ensure a comfortable transition as you leave our care.
Having shower (2 days)
You can have shower as long as your nose tapes don’t get wet.
Flying (3 Days):
After three days, flying becomes an option for those looking to return home or embark on a journey. Your body will have begun adjusting, making air travel a more comfortable experience.
Light Exercises including Yoga (2 Weeks):
Approaching the two-week mark, you can gradually embrace light exercises, including yoga. These activities promote relaxation, flexibility, and your overall well-being.
Running (3-4 Weeks):
Around three to four weeks, running can be considered as part of your routine. Listen to your body and ensure your comfort as you reintegrate higher-intensity activities.
Swimming (3-4 Weeks):
Around the same timeline, swimming can be a serene addition. The soothing effect of water supports your healing process, fostering rejuvenation.
Heavy Exercises including Heavy Lifting (6-8 Weeks):
As you approach the six to eight-week mark, reintroduce heavy exercises and lifting over 15-20 kg gradually. This measured approach ensures a safe and seamless transition.
Resuming Your Routine: Work or School (2 Weeks)
Our commitment to your holistic experience is reflected in the fact that most of our patients resume work or school just two weeks after their surgery. This smooth transition underscores our dedication to your comfort and well-being.
Protecting Your Nose: A Note on Sunlight Exposure
Considering the nose's sensitivity to UV light, we advise protecting your nose from intense sunlight and solarium light for at least three months post-surgery. Shielding your nose with sun protection factor (SPF 50) sunscreen products and a hat is a prudent approach to safeguarding your results and comfort.
8- when can I do makeup after rhinoplasty
You should take care to be extra gentle when applying makeup during the healing phase. Generally speaking, it is best to wait at least 2 weeks before wearing makeup on or around the nose.
